Rhinoplasty reshapes the nasal bones and cartilages for appearance, breathing, or both. Because the nose sits in the centre of the face, planning is conservative and based on skin thickness, septum, and overall facial proportions.

Who it may be for

Adults with completed nasal growth who wish to address a hump, deviation, tip shape or obstruction may be candidates. Uncontrolled medical disease may preclude surgery. Functional complaints deserve a full airway examination.

How the procedure is performed

Open or closed approaches are used. Osteotomies, cartilage grafting and septoplasty may be combined. The operation is performed under general anaesthesia. Splints and tapes support the new framework during early healing.

Recovery

Bruising around the eyes usually fades in 10–14 days. Swelling, especially of the tip, lasts months. Glasses, sports and sun exposure are restricted for a period explained after surgery. Breathing may feel blocked until internal swelling settles.

Risks and consultation

Asymmetry, persistent obstruction, numbness, scarring, need for revision and dissatisfaction with shape are possible. No nose can be designed from a celebrity photograph.

Frequently asked questions

Is natural rhinoplasty different?
Technique is always adapted to skin, cartilage strength and facial identity. The aim is harmony, not a single template.
Will my breathing improve?
If obstruction is due to a correctable septal or valve problem, function can improve. Allergy and sinus disease are managed separately.
When is the final result visible?
A reasonable shape is seen after a few weeks, but tip definition continues to refine for 12 months or more.
Can a previous rhinoplasty be revised?
Revision is possible but more complex. Grafts and scar tissue are assessed in person.
