A facelift addresses sagging of the midface, jawline and often the neck by repositioning deeper tissues, not only tightening skin. It is a reconstructive-style operation on ageing anatomy, not a change of identity.

Who it may be for

Adults with jowling, loose neck skin or descended midface who are medically fit may be considered. Smoking greatly increases risk and usually must stop well before surgery. Skin quality, bone structure and weight stability are assessed.

How the procedure is performed

Incisions typically run around the ear and sometimes under the chin. Deeper layers (SMAS or deep plane) are lifted and secured. Excess skin is redraped, not pulled tightly. The operation is performed under anaesthesia in hospital and may last several hours.

Recovery

Swelling, bruising and tightness last weeks. Drains, dressings and a period of reduced activity are common. Social downtime is often 2–3 weeks. Numbness and firmness improve over months.

Risks and consultation

Haematoma, nerve injury, delayed healing, asymmetry, unsatisfactory scars and need for revision can occur. Facelift is never planned from photographs alone.

Frequently asked questions

What is a deep-plane facelift?
It is a technique that lifts facial tissues below the SMAS in selected planes. Whether it is appropriate depends on anatomy, not on a marketing label.
Will I look like a different person?
The intended result is a rested version of the same face. Over-tightening is avoided.
Can fillers replace a facelift?
Fillers add volume; they do not lift descended tissue. They may complement surgery but are not a substitute when sagging is the main problem.
How long is the hospital stay?
Many patients stay overnight for observation. The exact plan is set after consultation.
